Let Me Call You Later

The “pre-pay” phone debuted in Chicago in 1898. By 1902, there were 81,000 payphones in the United States (Wikipedia). Yet, today they try to disappear into their surrounding environment, unseen and unacknowledged. This collection of images is part of an ongoing series to document them.

Searching and discovering Pay Phones around the city has become a family affair. The boys always point them out, filling me with joy whenever they notice one.

My favorite ones are the Pay Phones, which blend into the wall camouflaged, an unnoticed ghost, dreaming of connecting the world around them.
