Scenes From The Place I Grew Up

Puerto Rico should be extremely familiar to me, yet each time I return, it feels new, revealing corners I’ve never noticed and surprising me in ways I didn’t expect.

Still, when I wander the streets, roads, and beaches of this magical island, a sense of ease washes over me, as if there is nowhere else I’m meant to be.

I avoid saying “I came to visit…” because I refuse to call myself a visitor to my island. And yes, I call it mine. Puerto Rico is rooted deeply in my heart and soul, and it has shaped the person I am today.

In the song “LA MuDANZA” Bad Bunny opens with the lyric, “Gracias, mami, por parirme aquí ” (thank you mom for giving birth to me here.) a line that resonates within my bones and spirit. It reflects my gratitude to the universe for making Puerto Rico the place I call home.
