Central Skate Co. was a true labor of love, a venture where we set our own course and followed our passions. It started as Chico Brenes’s idea, and I was fortunate to join early in the journey, helping to evolve a modest skateboard concept into a full-fledged brand. Leading Central allowed me to immerse myself in what I cherish most: creating and sharing things.
My background in business management (I have a BA in Business Administration) proved invaluable in navigating relationships with vendors and distributors. It enabled us to establish distribution networks in Japan, Germany, and Puerto Rico, along with strong support from skate shops across the United States.
I wore multiple hats within our small operation, from conceptualizing and developing Central’s offerings to managing a diverse skate team and collaborating with various artists and brands.
Our team included Kelly Hart (US), Jp Souza (BR), Danny Hamaguchi (HI), Luis Tolentino (DR), and the incredible Robert Lopez Mont (PR), who sadly passed away in 2021.
Some notable individuals and brands we collaborated with were Donta, Don Rimx, Grizzly, DVS, and Cadence. We also had the support of Ben Harper and Residente and partnered with a local Puertorican coffee grower to bring our roast to life.
Witnessing Central embraced by the community and receiving such positive responses was deeply rewarding. Chico’s trust in me to run Central was an honor I never took lightly. I’m proud of my work as Brand Manager and Creative Director—it was an incredible experience and an unforgettable ride.
